16th Seduction

Lindsay Boxer is back again in the 16th Seduction, the next installment in the Women’s Murder Club series. Recently separated from her husband, Joe, following the events of the last book, they decide to go on a date to try to rekindle the romance. As they are having their romantic dinner on the pier, a nearby science museum explodes and they both rush to help. Lindsay is arresting a man who seems suspicious while Joe runs in to look for survivors. He’s caught in a secondary blast, causing broken bones and some brain damage. As a homicide detective, Lindsay has to work incredibly hard to put a mastermind behind bars for the deaths of twenty-nine people, all while trying to help her husband heal. Thankfully she has her friends in the Women’s Murder Club to help her with both tasks.

The main thing I love about James Patterson books is they are quick reads. I have two little kids, so trying to read a long, drawn-out book can be quite difficult. Patterson books are easy to read fast and also have short chapters, so it’s easy to set it down. I’ve read every book in this series except one, and I can definitely say the first ten or so were pretty great. However, they seem to only be about Lindsay and Joe’s relationship now, and this book was mostly focused on terrorism, which doesn’t really seem like a job a homicide detective would get put in charge of. In the past it seemed like they were about one crime and the whole group having to pull together to solve it. This book strayed from that formula, and I didn’t particularly enjoy that. Definitely not the worst book ever, but also not the best. I would recommend it if you like the series and want to stay faithful, but I would probably recommend reading the book that has an excerpt at the end, Murder Games, instead. That one seemed a lot more interesting.
