A Poison Dark and Drowning
Henrietta is finally a part of the Royal Order as a sorcerer, but she hasn’t completely parted with her Magician ways. She defeated the Ancient Korozoth, but she’s not the Chosen One. Her childhood love, Rook, is slowly changing into something else, but she’s determined to save him. When the Ancient R’hlem threatens to destroy England if he doesn’t get what he wants, Henrietta is willing to do whatever it takes to stop him. Teaming up with Blackwood and Magnus, Henrietta forms a reckless and dangerous plan.
Jessica Cluess delivers a brilliant fantasy with dashing characters and heart-pounding adventure, finding twists in every turn. Henrietta has several complicated relationships, but the focus is mainly on Blackwood, Magnus, and Rook. Blackwood has taken her in and is uptight and reserved, while Magnus is his opposite–a flirt who’s boisterous and playful. Then there’s her love for Rook, which is sweet and tragic due to his slow transformation into a demon. It’s flirty and sweet, tense and romantic, but also a little mysterious and sinister as everyone seems to be hiding something. Cluess speaks volumes through the different statuses of magic, with sorcerers acting superior to magicians and witches.
A Poison Dark and Drowning is the second book in Cluess’ Kingdom on Fire series.
