Bury the Lead
Kennedy Carter is a high school senior and an investigative journalist in the making. She abides by the detective rules for investigative reporters. Observe the obvious, eliminate the impossible, and avoid romantic entanglements at all costs. When Kennedy applies for a prestigious internship at the BayStateNews, she ends up losing it to her classmate Emily, who suddenly winds up dead. Everyone thinks Emily committed suicide, but not Kennedy. She thinks it’s murder and possibly connected to a curse. Every year, a high school senior either dies or disappears at Maplefield High. Kennedy sets out to solve a mystery with her best friend Ravi, but can she avoid romantic entanglements at all costs? Thrace’s funny and contemporary YA mystery is a page-turner. The characters are diverse and authentic to high school, with disabled and non-binary characters, including Kennedy’s sister, Cassidy. She is in a wheelchair due to a horse-riding accident, but she hasn’t let it keep her from getting back on a horse and competing in the Paralympics. Bury the Lead is an engaging mystery that is hard to put down.
