Color Makes the World Go Round
Someone is in love with color, especially bright shiny tones that catch the eye and make the viewer marvel at the majesty of the pigments. Serving as both writer and illustrator, talented Christopher Nielsen has created a colorfully impish pompom girl who looks at herself and the world both in color and in black and white. On pages on one side of the book the vividly hued creatures appear on a brilliantly colored background; however, the facing page is a disappointing version of the same in black and white.
The problem facing the little befuddled pixie is how to return the color to the colorless items on the adjoining pages. The solution lies in some magic chant, which happily returns color everywhere and now the rainbow and the creatures all around us brighten and enliven the pages. Indeed, color makes the world go round.
For preschool and early graders, this vibrant story will help to learn the names of colors, identify creatures outlined on the pages and probably induce them to become part of the story by adding their versions of color to the black and white pages, the illustrations are dynamic and the short text engaging.
