Come Away From Her
In Come Away From Her, we meet Cap, the pastor of a local church, who comes across Tess, a deaf woman running from her past. The story opens with Cap finding a dead body and only at the end are both the victim and the killer revealed. There are plenty with motive, and as in every small town, the people are full of secrets. Time rewinds a few weeks before the murder, and we see how things play out amongst the townsfolk and Tess, with big reveals along the way. As the tale comes to its shocking conclusion, the reader is left to decide if there is justice or redemption to be found in this town.
This was a less black humor, more serious type of Big Little Lies, but still very compelling. You can’t help but feel for the characters in their brokenness, just trying to make it through life. If you enjoyed Big Little Lies and also appreciate the slow-burn of a good story, this is for you. While the book is short, you learn a lot about the characters and why they are the way they are. I think it will be worth your while.
