Near a church in Chicago, historian Elizabeth Lawrence is killed by a cobra in the Dark of Night. A suicide note is found, and she was dying from cancer, but her friend, semiotician Dr. Evan Wilding, sees beyond the obvious, and the signs tell him she’s been killed. Working with his best friend and homicide detective, Addie Bisset, he will attempt to decipher the puzzles and stop a killer. Lawrence was on the trail of an artifact, with those on her tail who would kill to get it and those who would kill to keep it hidden. Evan will have to decipher which side has the most to lose.

I was a bit disappointed with this newest installment in the Dr. Evan Wilding series. I thought the first book was great, and I loved the characters. This book, however, focused more on the authenticity of some supposed documents than the plot and the characters. Even Evan felt like a secondary character, with Addie barely in the story. By the time I got to the end, I wasn’t entirely sure what had happened, and it didn’t seem like anything got resolved. Maybe the next installment will be better.
