Bryan Falchuk, the author of Do a Day, is a Certified Personal Trainer and Behavior Change Specialist. He obtains much of his inspiration that he uses in the book for guidance from his personal triumphs in life, succumbing and overcoming situations. He uses these to leverage his actions for life vitality philosophy. Also, he uses the inspiration and encouragement of his family and friends to position himself in a positive direction.
Do a Day is a how-to book that prescribes a way of life. The author developed this series of steps to obtain a better and healthier lifestyle to help overcome his own string of hardships. Through his efforts, he learned how to fight depression and deal with the world on a basis to drive him towards a better level of mental and physical health. His program is ambitious and enlightening. Although he makes no guarantees, his recommendations are inspiring and give us hope. I find this book an inspiration to live life to its very fullest.
The book is nicely written and easy reading. The simple, yet to-the-point, language allows the reader to see where the author is going with what he says about the human spirit. Do a Day is a way of life. The ideas in this book seem to be built upon self-reflections and self-realizations through a series of introspection. Another technique he uses is to take a concept and use it to sort out one’s own situation. In each chapter, he builds on the vitality and good health theme to develop a complete program that is easy to follow.
The book has a two-fold purpose: 1) it is meant to be read through in a single sitting and 2) it is a guide to be used as a reference for day-to-day activities and attitude-shaping development. The book incorporates three distinct sections: 1) philosophy, 2) motivation and goals, and 3) action.
Chapter 10 in Part II, The “Why & What to Do, is the heart of the program. Here, we can see the motivation behind the Do a Day method. This also represents the core of the sustenance behind this book. The essence of the book is to break down what you need to do into chunks you can easily handle, a little bit each day. The advice is sound for those who need guidance in organizing their lives. By following a regiment, one can achieve anything.
