Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor – Time Trials Volume 3: A Confusion of Angels HC

When the Doctor, Bill, and Nardole discover a delivery ship adrift in space, they quickly determine that the ship has a deadly stowaway on board…a weeping angel. But those stony predators aren’t the only winged force lurking about, as a complement of the Heavenly Host — robotic servants designed to look like golden angels — are also on board. Can the Doctor and his companions save the crew, separate friend from foe, and uncover all of the ship’s secrets before the weeping angel strikes?

An iconic villain from the new era of Doctor Who crosses paths with a lesser-appreciated one in A Confusion of Angels, a rollicking good time and one of the best Twelfth Doctor outings to date. Capaldi’s Doctor is hilarious and capable, translated brilliantly to the page by the writers and artists.

But the companions are the ones who make this one worthwhile. Bill and Nardole absolutely shine in a multilayered mystery that borders on the ridiculous without ever quite pushing the boundary too far.

Oftentimes, the Doctor Who comics feel overbooked with references and plot points, but A Confusion of Angels is engaging, balanced, and fan-service-y all at once.
