Fake: A Novel
Fake: A Novel is a story about a woman named Emma, an artist who paints copies of famous works and gets a chance to live glamorously after becoming friends with a wealthy benefactor. The question is, is there anything sinister going on in the arrangement?
I really enjoyed this one! I loved the setting and the glitz/glam of the art world. The writing was outstanding and I loved the theme of being fake- with art, emotions, and Instagram vs reality. I liked the format of starting the chapters with an interview transcript and thought the characters were unique.
Although it’s slower paced and a bit predictable, this didn’t bother me as much because I went into it considering it fiction rather than a thriller. If you go into this expecting a thriller, you might be disappointed. I also thought the main character was a bit naive.
I can see this as a limited television series; it gives me The Flight Attendant vibes and I can see Margot Robbie or Riley Keough playing the lead.
