The teacher gives an assignment for students to bring their collections into school to share with the class. One little girl is baffled. She doesn’t have a collection. She thinks about her family. Her mother collects buttons of all sizes and shapes. Her father has toy trains, and her sister has quite a collection of snow globes. Even her little brothers collect baseball cards. Grandpa collects old coins, and Grandma has many beautiful teapots. Aunts, cousins, neighbors, and even the mailman have collections of everything from seashells to license plates, from fish to carved animals, from birdhouses to clocks. But when it’s time to share collections in school, maybe the little girl’s collection is the most interesting of all.

Poet Michelle Schaub has written a collection of poems about collections that will charm youngsters and give them a lot of ideas for collections. Illustrator Carmen Saldaña has used a bright palette and plenty of details to keeps little one’s eyes searching the pages while listening to the sweet poems. A page at the back will help kids start a collection on their own. This is a terrific book.
