Photographer and writer Andrew Darlow has put together a very readable, colorful, practical, and digestible series of procedures for working in the field of digital photography. The book is specifically aimed at intermediate to advanced photographers who are using digital single-lens reflex cameras (DSLR), mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras (MILCs), digital rangefinder cameras, or advanced, compact fixed-lens cameras. The book is divided into four quarters, which cover the details of mastering the DSLR, purchasing the correct lenses and gear, mastering photography in the studio, and finally photographing at specific natural sites. Each quarter is subdivided into two to three pages of tips filled with detailed information that clearly explains the feature–with copious colorful photographs illustrating the techniques–and ends with a pro-assignment for the reader, for a total of 50 tips. Instructions to manually master the various camera functions such as aperture, exposure, ISO settings, and other functions are clearly explained and illustrated. Emphasizing the adage that practice makes perfect, the lessons and assignments provided by this skilled photographer and effective instructor will help the reader become more fluent with their DSLR or mirrorless camera.
