Glitch
Izzy and Eric have it all planned out. When the new game Dungeon City arrives, there is going to be an epic sleepover. But when the game arrives, there’s just too many days to wait, and Izzy queues it up, telling herself that she’s just making sure it works. And does it ever! Izzy gets sucked into the new world, meeting Rae, her new robot friend, who helps Izzy to maneuver the levels and earn experience points to save the world. However, Dungeon City is much more than a simple game. Izzy discovers she must fix her friendship with Eric and win the game to save the world.
Sarah Graley has woven the power of friendship and teamwork into a graphic novel about video games, combining two favorites into one great story. Her artwork is dynamic, and the characters are expressive. Some readers may be confused by the use of the non-gender term they in reference to Rae, the robot friend, but it seems to keep the focus on the character and not the gender stereotype. Excellently titled for many reasons, Glitch is a great take on girl power in the more boyish realm of video gaming, which will appeal to many readers.
