Got to Get to Bear’s!

When Izzy receives a note from Bear telling her to come to him right away, she knows it must be important. Bear never asks for anything. The sky is dark, and it looks like snow is on the way. Still, Bear never asks for anything, so Izzy sets out on the journey. Snow falls, and soon Izzy is stuck, but then Scritch comes along and offers Izzy a ride on her back. Even a flying squirrel has her limitations, so when Bingle shows up and offers to fly them both on her back they agree. The storm is too much, and they can’t keep flying. Even with help from Snaffie, will they ever make it to Bear’s?

Author and illustrator Brian Lies’ story is a perfect example of how it takes a village to get hard things done. The village of anthropomorphized animals is absolutely enchanting; it includes a chipmunk, a flying squirrel, a duck, and a raccoon all working together with one goal in mind. The illustrations are charming and filled with details. The surprise at the end is sure to have kids begging parents to read it over and over.
