Goth Girl, Queen of the Universe
Torn from her mother at a young age due to mental health issues, Jess is used to being the new girl. She’s quite adept at sewing and creating, using her budget-conscious designs and creative make-up concepts to fill the content on her social media sites. When she arrives at yet another school, she expects snide remarks about her goth look, but not an invitation to join a cosplay group.
Oscar begs for her expertise in order to make it to the biggest comic con in New York in an effort to start his cosplay business. When Jess’s mother wants to meet out of the blue, it is serendipitous that she’s in New York too. Jess might have found her place with a supportive foster mom and new friends, but the temptation to re-connect with her mother is too great, even if it is against DFS policy.
A crafty, creative, comfortable-in-her-skin teen, Jess knows who she is while battling forces outside her control, with the wit to go with her attitude. The comic con setting gives way to pop culture references and cosplay options that are simply fun. The romance, the LARPing, the costumes—it’s a geek’s definition of fun.
