With a forward by his wife, Yoko Ono Lennon, this book illustrates one of the most beautiful pop songs ever written. The simplicity of the lyrics is matched by clear, vivid images. The illustrator, Jean Jullien, may be best known for his illustration of the Eiffel Tower transformed into a peace symbol. Some of the birds used in the drawings are clearly doves, although the blurb calls them pigeons, but many are more abstract.
John Lennon’s estate has merchandised quite a bit of Lennon’s art and music, everything from crib sheets to shopping bags. But many would agree that it is far better to sell images of peace rather than war. It is a tragedy that this messenger of peace and love would be murdered as his assassin held his autographed album. It is appropriate that this book is partnered with Amnesty International in support of human rights.
