It is Nick’s birthday and he has one wish — he wants to have a birthday party where he and his friends will go the entire day without using any single-use plastic. This may seem like an easy request, but it is a far bigger task than anyone knows. Nick’s mother takes the partygoers to a special store to look at products that are friendly to the environment. Everyone is learning a lot about plastics and how they can harm the environment. When they ride the ferry and get to the beach, they find out even more. If people really want to save the oceans and all the wildlife, they will need to work together to change the way people use plastics.

Author/Illustrator Scot Ritchie has written a terrific book that will introduce young readers to the problems single-use plastics are creating in our world today. The storyline is relatable, the writing is engaging, and the illustrations are fun and filled with wonderful details. This is a perfect book to teach important lessons to youngsters without being the least bit didactic. It is charming and cute, but with a very important message. Don’t miss it.
