Keep Your Songs In Your Heart: A Novel of Friendship and Hope during World War II
Keep Your Songs in Your Heart is a book about a sixth grade girl named Ruby who loves to sing. I am a sixth grade girl who loves to sing too, so I was extra excited to receive this book! I read it as an e-book, which is when you read a book on a screen or device instead of a book with pages you turn. In this story, Ruby experiences World War II while living in Seattle, Washington. My favorite parts were when Ruby talked about different songs that she and her best friend, Emi, were learning to sing. Emi is a Japanese child, and her family suffers because of prejudice during the war time. Ruby also becomes friends with two Jewish children who had lived in Germany and were afraid of the Hitler Youth. This book explains a lot of details about what life was like during World War II and how American kids were affected during the war, especially when their dads and brothers and other family members became soldiers and went away to fight. I recommend this book for any kid who is interested in history and music.
