Mer World Problems: A Coloring Book Documenting Hardships Under the Sea
It’s hard out there for a mermaid. Sure, you might think it’s all singing with friendly crabs and enjoying the vibrant wonders of undersea life with washboard ab-toting mermen, but you’d be surprised at all the irritations, problems, and downright frustrating moments that come part and parcel with being a merlady of the sea.
Mer World Problems reveals these unexpected difficulties to us unsuspecting landlubbers with cartoonish glee, offering the chance for readers to bring these Murphy’s-Law moments to life with any colors we see fit. This is probably the snarkiest coloring book I’ve ever seen, and it looks like one colorists of any age would enjoy indulging a few hours’ work in.
The art is simple but effective, allowing you free reign to make each picture your own. There isn’t a lot of background detail to lose yourself in, which could be a boon or a hindrance, depending on how much effort you’re willing to invest in making the most of a relatively blank landscape. That being said, the humor of each entry makes up for some of the book’s sparser pages.
What mer can I say? Merpeople, mer problems.
