There are so many big, amazing cities in this world, but, to many young readers, they are little more than names. With Benoit Tardif’s new book, Metropolis, kids can get a better sense of some of these places. The book offers snapshots of thirty-four different cities; each is covered in a two-page spread that tells readers where the city is and the primary language spoken there and then highlights notable things about that city. Readers will learn that Stockholm has the Ericsson Globe sports arena and delicious kanelbulle (cinnamon rolls); Johannesburg has a statue of Nelson Mandela and the Hillbrow Tower; Vancouver has Kitsilano Beach and lots of seafood. The illustrations, meanwhile, are full of bright colors and bold, simple lines, sure to appeal to young readers of a wide variety of ages. This fun picture book is sure to inspire lots of questions about these fascinating cities, and readers of all ages will learn fun little factoids along the way.
