Mindful Kids: 50 Mindfulness Activities
Kids live in a stressful and increasingly over-scheduled world. In a society that prizes busyness, Mindful Kids is a fantastic resource to help children calm down, relax, and be still.
Not a book, Mindful Kids is a little box of cards that prompt children to engage in 50 different mindfulness activities. Included in the kit is a short brochure with a brief explanation of how to approach the cards.
The sturdy, colorful cards have a full-color illustration and title on one side and a step-by-step guide to the activity on the other. The activities are broken down into five categories: Start your day, Find calm, Focus, Open your heart, and Rest and relax. The activities usually start with taking three deep breaths. The following steps either set up a simple mini-meditation or involve a physical pose to achieve the desired result of gearing up for the day, taking a moment just to yourself, or calming down and letting go of worries.
Even though it’s marketed toward kids, the box states, “Ages 4-104!” Indeed, there’s nothing childish about these activities, and the kit would be a valuable tool for adults as well as children who are looking for greater peace and calm in their day.
