Mirror, Mirror: A Twisted Tale
Snow White has been locked up in her castle for years, since her mother died and her father abandoned her. Her mother’s sister, Aunt Ingrid, has gradually taken the role of Evil Queen. Ingrid hides in her room and has cast off most of the servants in order to hide her secret mirror. Snow spends her time keeping up the castle and wondering about her kingdom. Meeting Henri is a distraction, but this is short-lived, as her stepmother will allow Snow no contact with strangers. When she is tricked into leaving the castle so the huntsman can kill her, Snow runs off and finds the dwarfs. Finding Henri again strengthens her resolve to get her kingdom back, but she’ll need more than his help to win back her throne.
Calonita is the perfect writer for this next installment of Disney’s Twisted Tales. Readers who have enjoyed her Fairy Tale Reform School series will like this alternate tale based on Snow White. The alternating chapters between Snow and the Evil Queen tell a story of a strong heroine and a power-hungry villain, but Snow doesn’t need a hero to save her. This is a great modern day re-telling of a classic favorite.
