Moose Willow Mystery: A Yooper Romance
Janese works at the local community college in community outreach. As the winter holidays approach, she is busy with the igloo contest. It has become ridiculously competitive, and one of the fiercest competitors is found dead in another competitor’s meat locker. Janese’s mother drops in for an extended visit and disrupts Janese and her boyfriend George’s lives. A lot of strange things happen around town, including sightings of Michigan’s own Bigfoot, the Yooper, as well as a strange woman who appears from nowhere and makes George disappear for a few days. Janese and her best friend, a local policewoman, work together to try to solve the mysteries. Janese’s life is in danger when someone breaks into her car and leaves her a surprise.
Terri Martin has written a small-town story with lots of mystery to it and plenty of red herrings to keep readers guessing. The characters are well-rounded and the dialogue is snappy. The story wanders a bit and it could use a good round of editing. In particular, it could use a good copy editor who knows grammar, as the grammar issues are distracting. That said, it is a fun story with lots of humor.
