Moral Injuries: A Novel
I was excited to receive a copy of Christie Watson’s Moral Injuries to review. It is a story about a group of women in medical school who have kept their friendships going for twenty-five years even though there is a big secret that they have been carrying around. This secret comes back to haunt them when a similar situation occurs involving their children.
I love a good medical thriller, however, I would not place this book in the thriller or mystery genre at all. It’s more of a modern literature piece that is completely character-driven. The chapters are from the points-of-view of the women and although the book was intriguing in the beginning, it quickly became boring with the same conversations happening over and over again. I also found none of the women to be good people. Each one of them is selfish and their personal problems are highlighted in the book giving the whole feel of the book a very depressing, negative vibe. I enjoyed the medical jargon and descriptions of patients and the doctors’ interactions with them the most. It’s too bad the plot moved so slowly and the characters were so drab because the story had potential.
