Nautical Quilts: 12 Stitched and Quilted Projects Celebrating the Sea
To add to Lynette Anderson’s full resume in the field of art, she has completed another quilter’s dream, Nautical Quilts: 12 Stitched and Quilted Projects Celebrating the Sea. This how-to book is full of nautical-themed projects from quilts, pictures, pillows, and even a duffel bag, she has provided the sea-lover an array of projects to start. Each project begins with an introduction to explain its significance in general, as well as some history behind the idea of the project. Next is the materials needed (fabrics, threads, tools, etc.) and the step-by-step instructions on how to complete the project with tips along the way. After all of the projects are shown, Anderson provides examples of the techniques shown, as well as templates needed to mimic her pieces of art to the closest degree.
Each piece is a work of art that to an outsider would look complicated and difficult. Personally, I have some experience in stitchery, so understanding some of the work needed for these pieces makes it a little less intimidating, but even to myself, it doesn’t look like the easiest thing to do. Anything from this book is worth trying, and once completed, will either make for a perfect gift or personal décor around the house.
