This is a book of history, and it tells you important things that happened on each day. It’s not super comprehensive but it does give you a feeling of some of the types of things that have happened around the world in different years. You can look up any date and see what happened then, so you can look up your birthday, for example, and find out who else was born then, or what was invented, or important events from science or sports or lots of other things. On February 14th, for example, you learn that St. Valentine was murdered, but also that the first computer was revealed, and that the inventor of flat-bottomed paper bags was born. This is fun to browse through and the illustrations, which are photos and drawings, add a lot of visual interest. I like the way it is organized by date in this way. There is a lot of information, so it probably wouldn’t be something you would read straight through; you would probably look up individual dates to see what happened then, but anywhere you open this up you will find something interesting and new.
