One Night Gone: A Novel
In One Night Gone, Allison is looking to start over. She told her now ex-husband off on-air, resulting in divorce and being fired. She’s offered the chance to house-sit for three months in Opal Beach and she thinks this might be just what she needs. Allison is slowly drawn into the story of Maureen who went missing from that same area thirty years earlier. Maureen was just a teenage running from her past, stopping at Opal Beach with the carnival she worked with. But by the end of summer, no one would hear from her again. Allison begins to look into this mystery, not wanting this young woman to ever be forgotten. She’ll find out that some secrets are worth killing over.
I wouldn’t necessarily say the characters in this book have much depth, but it was still fun to read. Allison and Maureen were the most interesting parts of this book. The plot took a somewhat predictable turn, however, I still enjoyed it. This would be a great book for reading at the beach or sitting in your favorite chair. It’s full of high society secrets, strong women looking to start over and to seek the truth with a little bit of murder thrown in. The small amount of the supernatural element also made it enjoyable. If you like any of those elements, I think you will enjoy this book.
