Peggy Porschen asserts that desserts should be both delicious and beautiful perfect expressions of love in every season. But can the amazing creations presented here be replicated by bakers at home?
Well, perhaps. Flavor combinations are lovely; for example, the Pear Blackberry Cake achieved a perfect balance between the cake’s delicate fruit flavor contrasted with just-barely sweet blackberry buttercream. Helpfully, most of these desserts are variations based on a few straightforward, easy-to-reproduce (although somewhat advanced) recipes. With a fairly standard selection of baking pans and tools, you shouldn’t find the basic recipes too difficult.
The decorations are a different story. Highly specialized tools, ingredients, and techniques abound, and while these decorations are what truly take these over the top, all those specialty items, as well as the extensive steps required (even the aforementioned, relatively simple, cake needed three pages) are rather daunting. However, this book expertly guides your every step; if you’re willing to acquire all the needed items and ingredients (which are clearly delineated) to attempt something super fancy, the instructions and accompanying photos give you every expectation of success. Alternatively, use this book as a springboard for your own designs, with delicious base recipes to get you started.
