Peppers are at the heart of many cuisines around the world – from the bright pimientos of the Mediterranean to the blazing birds-eye peppers of Africa to spicy Indian curries. But all peppers of the Capsicum genus originated in South America and spread from there – to the world’s delight! This wonderful book will open your eyes to the magic of this magnificent plant.

Peppers are remarkably complex; readers will enjoy learning where they come from, how they have diversified, and how and why they have spread across the world, all in just the first few chapters of the book. It is an intriguing and enjoyably written history. The pepper science is a little more dry and technical, but it’s interesting reading for those wanting to better understand their peppers. The bulk of the book is filled with gorgeous full-color photographs and descriptions of many different peppers, including their best uses and growing habits. A few recipes, mostly for sauces although also some for main dishes, are included at the end to give you a sense of peppers’ possibilities. This is a reference book you will return to often, especially as, once you’ve read it, you will want to try every one of the peppers!
