Secret Reno: A Guide to the Weird, Wonderful, and Obscure
Who would have thought that Reno had such a lot of interesting and fun facts to learn about? In Secret Reno: A Guide to the Weird, Wonderful, and Obscure author Janice Oberding does a wonderful job of providing the reader with several very special places to visit in and around the Reno area.
Being that my in-laws live right outside Reno, I was delighted to see some fun things to do with the kids when we go to visit. For example, Idlewild Park is home to the Wa-Pai-Shone Indian Head statue, which is seventeen feet high. It is adjacent to the Rose Garden, which features over two hundred varieties of roses. There is also a piece of the Blarney Stone located in the Whitney Peak Hotel.
From candy shops to the Donner Party campsite to the place where Levi Strauss invented jeans, Reno really is the “Biggest Little City.” This is a fantastic book for anyone wanting to know a little more about the history of Reno as well as where to go to have fun when visiting.
