SHAG: The Collected Works

His art is bright and colorful, and it looks like it traveled through time from the 1950s/1960s to today. He goes by the name of Shag, and he got his start doing art for the album covers of small bands; and since then his work has become more and more noticeable. This collection brings together his greatest hits and gives us a look inside his studio. Shag’s style has an almost tiki, Polynesian–at least through the eyes of Americans–feel to it. It features bright colors, fashionable clothes, and parties that go all night. There is a story in every picture, and you can see how his style has developed from his earlier days to the time he worked for Disney and then to his more recent works, which are a bit more dark and scary without losing that fashionable taste. While I am sure that some people might view his art as kitsch, it evokes a bygone era, a look back to something that is gone but has always been in our imagination. For those people who can’t afford an original Shag, this book is the best way to get his art.
