Sprites, also known as fairies or elves, once contributed to humans’ lives much more than they currently do. With mysterious powers and a wealth of knowledge, the sprites were the keepers of anything green; keep in mind that this is before humans could mess around with the sprites’ work. When humans came along, they took over the sprites’ role as sole keepers of the gardens, which forced them to figure out their new role. Sprite and the Gardener follows Wisteria as she tries to fit in and become acquainted with the existing group of sprites in her land. Finding it tough to get anywhere with them, she ventures off and finds a garden that could use some help. Being new, Wisteria is not aware of her potential and the power she possesses. Has she found her purpose among the sprites?

Sprite and the Gardener is a family friendly story that is appropriate for all ages. The moral is empowering to anyone, with its message of independence and striving to help others, combined with the proper social skills to include others and make them feel welcome and needed. The pictures are vibrant and made the book a quick read. I know that I would certainly welcome a sprite into my garden!
