Elizabeth Luard has collected and curated a fantastic selection of recipes in Tapas, her new recipe book of small dishes from Spain. The selection is broad, comprised of selections to please even the pickiest of palates, and the recipes are clear and concise, making it very easy to create the tasty dishes for yourself. The recipes are accompanied by notes on tapas serving and history, which presents the dishes in their proper context and gives you excellent serving and plating suggestions to serve your small plates to their best advantage.

I tried several of the dishes in the company of friends and found that though the ingredient lists are frequently simple, the outcomes are delicious, often because of that simplicity. There are a few more complicated recipes, like those for croquettes and pasties, but the instructions are still clear and easy to follow. My only complaint about the book is that the format in which it was printed does not make it easy to prop open in the kitchen while cooking, leaving you instead to make notes or constantly flip through the small paperback while covered in cooking debris. Otherwise, this is a fabulous collection of recipes for those who appreciate the art of tapas.
