The British Are Coming
As the United States celebrates its 250th birthday there have been a number of books coming out exploring the Revolutionary War and Founding Eras; this book adapts one of the award winning bestselling history books into a young adult adaptation that is perfect for middle and high school students to learn about early American History. In 2019, Rick Atkinson wrote a trilogy of books covering the Revolutionary War and the beginning of American. This started with The British Are Coming and would become a major bestseller and win multiple awards. In this version the first of three volumes has been adapted and covers the same timeframe of the book, the leadup to the war and the first 21 months of the conflict, but designed for children who might not be at the level of reading a major non-fiction book. The story is fairly easy to follow with exciting action scenes, individual characters narrating larger events and important individuals, and keeping the story going. There are a few places where the characters speaking to the reader is a bit jarring and confusing but do not distract from the larger overall work.
