Gemma Doyle anxiously awaits the arrival of actor Sir Nigel Bellingham for Cape Cod’s theater performance of The Hound of the Baskervilles. To Gemma’s disappointment, he’s not the legendary actor he used to be, but his appearance is good publicity, especially for her best friend Jayne’s tea room, which is hosting a high tea with the chance to meet the actor. When he’s found dead shortly after the tea’s success, the evidence points to Jayne’s mother. Gemma knows she’s innocent and will do anything to prove it.

Inside this world of theater comes a murder mystery full of secrets, lies, and shocking discoveries. The story is driven by the mystery, with relationships and Gemma’s personal life primarily in the background and only a dash of romance to be seen. In many ways, Gemma is a modern and tamer Sherlock Holmes with a keen eye for details and a brilliant mind that connects the dots. She’s blunt and outspoken and has a curious, slightly nosy, nature. Jayne, her more high-strung counterpart, has a more serious and cautious personality compared to Gemma’s impulsive and investigative one, but they manage to also ground each other. Mystery lovers won’t be able to put this down!

The Cat of the Baskervilles is the third book in the Sherlock Holmes Bookshop Mystery series.
