The human race is on the verge of extinction. Cassie and her group are determined to outlast the visitors and co-exist with each other. However, Cassie is upset that her baby brother, Sam, cannot remember his ABCs. Sam just wants to be able to carry a gun like the rest of his crew. Evan, in his 10,000-year wisdom, cannot understand the appeal of cleanliness. Zombie (Ben) wants to find Ringer and try not to repeat past mistakes. Ringer wants to save Zombie. The group has lost so many along the way, but still have hope that there might be a way to save not just humans, but the humanity inside that makes us tick. Because if the visitors are able to take away cooperation, trust, and most importantly, love, the humans will be gone forever.

Yancey’s conclusion to this series is explosive and will make readers wish for more after this series finale. His alternating chapters provide teasers that make readers wait for resolutions as they catch up with the many sub-plots woven throughout. Some readers may be confused by the riddles that contradict each other concerning the Others, but the conclusion helps to clear up any remaining questions.
