The Lifeguards: A Novel
The Lifeguards is one of the most well-planned books I’ve read this year. I loved how the author started the book from the point-of-view of the dead girl and then goes right into the main characters’ points of view. There are three mothers, Liza, single mother of Charlie, Annette, mother of Bobcat and married to Louis, and Whitney, mother of twins Xavier and Roma and married to Jules. The book is told from the points-of-view of the three mothers and is fast-paced from start to finish. The three boys are lifeguards and are just your regular fifteen-year-old boys until one day when they find a woman dead on the greenbelt. The mothers know the boys are trying to hide something from them and each mother has secrets of her own as well. As secrets unfold, the reader soon learns how interconnected the lives of the boys and their mothers really are. The truth is shocking and there are moral and ethical boundaries that are overstepped to the fullest. But would you do the same thing to protect your child? This book has all the elements of a fantastic suspense thriller novel.
