The People We Keep is a story filled with bittersweet hope and the importance of choosing your tribe. April doesn’t have a very good home life since she has a somewhat absentee father and lives in a motorhome by herself. Her only reprieve is playing and singing songs she writes about her life. It all comes crashing down when she has a major fight with her father—causing her to flee. It’s then that she meets new and interesting people.

We follow April as she navigates the world around her. I loved this story so much. There were times I was sad, and mad, and times that made me cry! Best of all was the feeling of hope that everything would be okay in the end. April is an amazing character to root for. The people she meets along the way help shape her into the wonderful human she is in the end. It makes me feel grateful for all the wonderful people in my life who have done the exact same thing.
