The Perfect Daughter: A Novel
One of the most thrilling books I have read all year, The Perfect Daughter by D.J. Palmer is a book you won’t want to miss. Penny was found in a park when she was only five years old by her now adoptive mother, Grace. Grace and her husband Arthur welcomed Penny into their home, and through that action, Penny also gained two older brothers, Jack and Ryan. Fast forward twelve years and seventeen-year-old Penny is arrested for murdering her birth mother, Rachel. She is found with blood all over her. But Penny is not like most other girls. She has dissociative identity disorder. Many know it as multiple personality disorder. There are Penny, Eve (the bold, brash one), Ruby (the one with the English accent), and Chloe (the academic scholar). As Penny is locked away in a prison hospital, Grace does everything she can to prove her daughter’s innocence.
This book is absolutely fantastic. Penny’s personalities were so well-developed by the author that you could picture each one as she transitioned. If you are into psychological thrillers with a fantastic story and a twist at the end, this is the book for you.
