The Prized Girl: A Novel

We rated this book:

This was one of the most interesting and suspenseful books I have ever read. It had more hairpin turns than the Road to Hana in Hawaii. This book is about a broken town with broken people all too proud to show how broken they really are, but these things will come out on their own after the town’s most perfect specimen is murdered in cold blood.

When Jenny, a former pageant queen, is found dead, police arrest the most obvious suspect, but that is never a good idea and naturally, Jenny’s half-sister is suspicious. Virginia has seen first-hand the horrors of this town and won’t stop at anything to see if something similar happened to her sister. This book shows Jenny’s life right before she died and Virginia’s life after. When you start to uncover the secrets of the two sisters you find out the town is not as picture-perfect as it may seem at first. A plan to run away, not one but two perverts, psychotic parents, forbidden love, a passionate murderer, SO. MANY. SECRETS. And two girls at the center of it all. The Prized Girl is a true thriller.

This book had the most amazing characters with insane histories. When I got to the end, I could not put it down. The storyline and writing were both phenomenal. This book is a great reminder that when something is bad it can always get worse. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes thrillers, but I’m warning you this is not for the light-hearted. It is the type of book I thank God is not a true story.
