The Roxy Letters: A Novel

Readers of Bridget Jones’s Diary will also like this book because it is in much the same vein. The main character writes letters to her ex-boyfriend who also lives with her. She is candid in her day-to-day angst and inability to form a permanent attachment. In spite of her college education, she is also in a rut with a low-level job. She is barely keeping it together. She has one friend who is as ambitious and forward thinking as she is not. Another friend is sketchy and unpredictable. They both lead her down the road to a happier and more fulfilling career. This is a pleasant, well-written book guaranteed to pass the hours. It is the author’s second novel. Her first novel was based on her experiences fighting wildfires in the West. Her current novel is based in Austin where the author grew up. There is a secondary story about the gentrification of Austin and the main character’s ruefulness about old places and the way things were formerly in the city. For pleasant reading, the author does not disappoint.
