The work of the late Manly P. Hall (1901-1990) is being brought back and edited by Mitch Horowitz in the form of The Secret History of America: Classic Writings on our Nation’s Unknown Past and Inner Purpose. Hall is called one of the world’s greatest spiritual and ethical thinkers; he studied the metaphysical dimensions of history.

Horowitz is a historian of alternative spirituality, with a love for symbol and myth. Horowitz has designed the book in a way that we learn in part one about the ancient origins of America and the traces of Freemasonry in Ancient America. Next, there is some history on the Native Americans and their ritualism and symbolism in America. Part two covers the destiny of America, and part three talks about the iconic eminences among famous American men including Washington, Franklin, and Emerson.

For a historian, this is full of information about early America that will read very interestingly; for those who don’t have an interest in this subject, it might read a little dry and may be hard to follow. Horowitz did a great job of organizing the book and included many facts and interesting bits of history.
