The Shop on Hidden Lane
Paranormal romance and psychic ability stories aren’t my normal reading diet, but this one had a lot going for it. There were some slower moments in the middle, and then the ending went way too fast for my taste, but The Shop on Hidden Lane by Jayne Ann Krentz kept me guessing.
Sophy Harper and Luke Wells have known each other forever, and their families have been linked for centuries. As two of the oldest psychic families in Washington state, they’ve had dealings for years that have placed them on opposite sides of conflicts. When Sophy’s aunt goes missing along with Luke’s uncle, this unlikely duo pairs up to find their family members and to discover the truth about the historically bad blood between the Harper and Wells families.
Their search takes them to a rather cult-y wellness compound in Arizona run by a billionaire that they know they can’t trust. While investigating, they discover the director’s unnatural obsession with light and the power it holds. They’re accompanied by Luke’s dog, Bruce, who is a character unto himself and provides some comic relief in the novel.
While I wasn’t sure where the story was going, I was definitely intrigued. Other readers have noted this novel is part of a larger Krentz universe, so if The Shop on Hidden Lane intrigues you, there’s more to read in that world.
