Two sisters are very different and both are alone and adrift. Win is in deep mourning for her dead husband, who was taken from her in his youth and in the early days of their marriage. Poppy, the stunningly beautiful older sister, hasn’t a care in the world as she drifts in and out of short-lived relationships, jobs, and apartments. One is a grasshopper, one is an ant. Out of nowhere, Poppy moves in with her sister Win at Win’s lakefront cottage. Poppy is out of a job and is deliberately on a lazy vacation while Win is left to foot the bills, make the meals, and clean up after her sister. The only important creature in Poppy’s life is her cat, which Win claims to be allergic to. Resentments build and a showdown is sure to come.

But at the heart of this book are secrets that have been kept that are devastating to their lives. Incidental to the sisters’ story are the conflicting romances that come upon them. There are great misunderstandings and a showdown between the two. How does Win reconcile being a second choice to her sister’s great beauty, and how does Poppy come to terms with what it means to attract attention when all she wants is to become invisible? An interesting story for a cool fall night.
