Through the Forest
Through the Forest is an adventure in a book. It’s the perfect book for a hot summer day when you just want to lay back and enjoy the air conditioning, but the kids need to exercise their imagination. Mother Forest guides you through the book, giving the option of continuing to two different pages (for example, page three tells you to continue onto page five to follow a squirrel or to page nine to learn more about insects) which allows children to explore their favorite path through the forest and ensures that they will be met with a new story every time they read Through the Forest.
I’m usually one who likes more realistic illustrations, but the colors and round edges add to the whimsical feeling of the book and will encourage the sense of adventure in the children who read this book. While it doesn’t have a typical narrative storyline, the choose-your-own adventure nature of this book is sure to keep kids interested far longer than the ten minutes it takes to flip through a typical picture book. And maybe Through the Forest will inspire your own adventure – once the heat dies down.
