After reading the first three books in the series, I wasn’t sure how Rogers and Roosen could possibly top themselves, but Warrior Pose does just that. This fourth book in the Yoga Mat Mysteries series strikes a powerful balance between high-stakes espionage and the emotional depth that’s made Elaina Williams and Ric Peters such a compelling duo. If you’ve been following their journey, this installment is a must-read.

Set across Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand, Warrior Pose opens with a literal bang—a chilling assassination in Jakarta that quickly entangles Ric in a deeper conspiracy. From the get-go, I was pulled into the shadowy world Ric operates in, a place where secrets carry deadly consequences. The chapters fly by with international intrigue, coded flash drives, and jungle ambushes that feel straight out of a Jason Bourne thriller. The writing is cinematic, especially in moments like Ric’s tense jungle confrontation with armed men, only to be interrupted by the last person he expects: Elaina.

Elaina, ever the grounded foil to Ric’s chaotic fieldwork, really comes into her own in this book. I loved how she asserts herself, not just romantically but professionally and morally. Her decision to track Ric to Bali shows her grit and intelligence, traits we’ve seen before but never so boldly. I cheered when she arrived in the jungle, dressed for adventure and ready to stand her ground. It’s a turning point, not only in their relationship but in how we view Elaina’s role in the story. She’s no longer just the curious yoga teacher; she’s a partner in every sense of the word.

The authors continue to weave in vivid cultural details and humor, keeping the tone fresh even amid the danger. Whether it’s Elaina’s “tangerine-orange” wig prank at Dead Ends Off or Ric’s cheeky encounters with airport security, the book never loses its charm. And of course, the food scenes are mouthwatering—this time with a Southeast Asian twist. As always, the sense of place is impeccable. From the sweaty streets of Jakarta to the serene landscapes of New Zealand’s South Island, I felt like I was there.

But what elevates Warrior Pose is the emotional core. The book deepens Ric’s internal struggle between duty and domesticity. His fears about Elaina being dragged into his dangerous world feel real and earned, especially as their bond grows stronger. The scene where he receives a photo of their private moment in Tasmania, taken without their knowledge, sent chills down my spine. It’s a perfect symbol of how exposed they’ve both become.

Themes of trust, identity, and the cost of truth run through the story. There’s also a strong thread about chosen family, particularly as Elaina meets Ric’s parents and starts to envision a future with him, despite the risks.

In short, Warrior Pose is a riveting addition to a series that keeps getting better. With espionage, romance, humor, and heart, this book is everything I hoped it would be—and more. If Elaina and Ric are preparing for a long haul together, I’ll gladly ride shotgun for the next adventure.
