Welcome to Deadland
Disease has consumed the entirety of the human race, causing the infected to be overcome by inhuman rage and the hunger for human flesh. Wendy, Asher, and Rico are among the few that have survived the disease, but they are fighting to survive the infected. These three have been forced together by fate to try to survive the seemingly overrun world of the infected. Wendy fears that she will lose her only friend in the world, Asher, once he uncovers her secret. Asher tries to survive the undead and his current heartbreak. Rico doesn’t focus on his delinquent past, but on taking care of a six-year-old thrust into his care. These survivors do have to face the infected, but they also have to face past tribulations.
Welcome to Deadland was a good novel and an interesting read. Not only does this book include the zombie apocalypse, it also includes life “before” the disease. I thoroughly enjoyed the fact that this book showed the “before” and the “after.” It gives the reader more insight as to why and how the characters act now and how they have changed due to the disease. Although I would have enjoyed more zombie scenes in this zombie novel, I do understand that the author needs more time to explain the past. It’s not your usual zombie novel, and I think that’s a part of its appeal.
