Wildflowers: TOON Level 2 (Liniers & Toon Books)
Inspired by watching his three young daughters frolic haphazardly in the lush Yucutan, Argentine American cartoonist Liniers envisaged this adventure story for his three girls. Like Robinson Crusoe, they suddenly find themselves isolated on a jungle island with a mysterious crashed plane in the background. The children talk with the colorful blossoms, evade a fire-snorting dragon, befriend a miniature gorilla and interact with this new environment as the fancy takes them. Watch the children relate to one another, sometimes teasing but often supportive. The jungle greenery filled with wildflowers feels warm and inviting and note the changing expressions on the children’s faces as they develop new imaginative elaborations. The comic book format allows each cartoon to evoke the fanciful images that play on and with the children. Youngsters will identify with these high-spirited and curious creatures as they explore and sample various aspects of this world. The story is colorfully put together and the exuberant figures like the wildflowers appear to reach out to the onlooker and will activate individual illusions.
