Writers & Lovers
Casey is a thirty-one-year-old waitress who is trying to get her life together. She’s incurred massive student loan debt, but she has traveled the world and has an extensive education in English. She’s been working on her novel for the past six years. She’s recovering from a brief romance gone bad, and her mother has recently, and unexpectedly, died. In short, Casey is trying her best not to spiral out of control.
For the first quarter of this book, I was contemplating whether or not I should just put it down. It felt a little stream-of-consciousness-like and the threads weren’t coming together for me. However, I persevered and I’m so glad I did. I couldn’t put the book down after a while. I wanted to know how Casey’s love life was going to work out and what would happen with her novel. In short, I wanted to see how the author was going to wrap up Casey’s story and if she was going to be OK.
This ended up being a poignant and heartfelt novel about the effects of grief and the paths people take to get through life.
