You Got Anything Stronger?: Stories
You Got Anything Stronger is Gabrielle Union’s latest book recounting important events from the last few years of her life. These include her partnership with Dwyane Wade, step-parenting their children, and bringing a new daughter into the world. All the while, she is busy as an actress, producer, and entrepreneur and continuously challenges the idea of work-life balance. The book wonderfully displays Gabrielle’s role as a friend as she recounts struggles that her girlfriends encounter, that are all too common to many women. She talks about race, infertility, acceptance, depression, aging, and her feelings about each of them and so much more.
< br>Gabrielle Union’s voice is like that of a girlfriend and at times a big sister, imparting her wisdom. The first chapter about Union’s journey to have her daughter was heartbreaking and raw and drew me into the book. I connected with her personal stories and appreciated that she did not shy away from calling out racism and ageism. She utilizes her platform well by bringing attention to behaviors and slights that affect her personally and professionally. Union doesn’t hold back and it was refreshing to read an account that felt so real and unscripted. This was an excellent collection of stories told with truth, heart, and some humor.
