You Were Made for Me
Katie has never been kissed, and after sharing this with Libby, her best friend, they set about dreaming up the perfect guy. Katie, the artist, sculpts him from clay while Libby, the self-proclaimed scientist, adds a top-secret formula. Wallowing in her misery, she says good night to her creation (maybe even sealed it with a good night kiss), and a guy emerges the next morning. A real, true, breathing boy! Katie is ecstatic, especially since he is what every girl has dreamed of: romantic, thoughtful, kind, helpful, a rom-com in real life. However, she is torn because her long-time crush suddenly seems interested. Finally. When she has a boyfriend. But, of course.
This story is every girl’s dream, as much about love as friendship. Told from Katie’s point of view, Libby’s interjections add comic relief and another perspective, which helps boost the story as Katie becomes a Debbie Downer one time too many, especially as she has everything she could possibly want. While the conclusion is not so much explosive as it is slowly eye-opening, it still fits with Katie, her personality, and her wants in life. This story is worth a trip or two to the pool this summer.
